We are so happy to announce that Susan Cadley, LPC has signed a publishing deal with The Unbound Press to publish her first book, Your Heart Has a Tail: Navigating the Loss of a Beloved Pet.
Susan has been a caring, compassionate counselor for 23 years and a devoted pet lover that has held a reverence and connection with animals since she was a young girl. With a heart full of empathy and a commitment to healing, she provides a guiding light for those seeking understanding and solace after the loss of a beloved pet.

Susan says this about the inspiration for the book:
‘I lost people and pets from a young age and have walked the grief journey myself, with friends, family, and my clients. I understand and have experienced the special connection formed with pets and how profound the loss can be.’
Of the purpose behind the book, Susan says:
‘My book is for those that have experienced a pet gone missing, caring for a dying pet, or a sudden, recent loss. The grief of a pet is often minimized by society, and I aim to normalize and honor this grief as the emotion that it is - the loss of love.’
Through sharing her own stories of losing her beloved pet companions combined with a career as a psychotherapist, she’ll walk alongside you as you navigate the process of grief and tend to your broken heart. Susan offers ways through, not around, the grief with practical caring tips, gentle insights, and hope for healing.
The Unbound Press is truly honoured to be a part of the birth of Susan’s poignant and touching book and we know it will bring so much comfort and deep nourishment to its readers.

I saw your photo of you and your lovely dog and instantly felt connected! When I went on to read the details of your book the connection deepened immediately. My beloved dog Barley passed just over a year and a half ago. I have lost parents and friends in my life time, but the grief I felt over the loss of Barley was like no other I have experienced. I realised the depth of grief, for me, was due to feeling the pure love and joy she brought into my life. Your book is going to be such a gift Susan, thank you for writing it, I look forward to reading your insights and wisdoms.
