Jennifer Flint signs publishing deal with The Unbound Press

Updated: Oct 21, 2021

We are delighted to announce that Jennifer Flint has signed with The Unbound Press to publish her upcoming book, Wild Egg.

In May 2013, on the evening of Jennifer’s mother's 65th birthday, and a few months after securing a promotion to HR Director, her husband blindsided her by declaring he wanted them to have a baby. Jennifer was 41 at the time and had, until that moment, assumed she did not want and would not have children, but suddenly realised she had not intentionally DECIDED this. Her husband's heartfelt plea was a call to adventure that triggered an existential crisis as she tried to break the deadlock of her ambivalence. This led to a journey of descent into what Jennifer began to call her 'vulnerability apprenticeship'.

At the time, Jennifer was desperate to read a deep, raw, messy woman's story that would help her feel less alone and ashamed. She never found that book. During lockdown last year Jennifer signed up to a writing pop-up group in the hopes of reigniting a long-held dream to write a book inspired by her father's brief sojourn as a lighthouse keeper. Instead (much to her surprise) Wild Egg knocked on her door and invited her out to play...

Wild Egg tells the story of Hollie Hardwick, a successful but unfulfilled HR Director. As her biological clock is about to strike twelve, her husband declares he wants a baby and Hollie must come off the fence of her ambivalence and make a choice - before the chance slips away.

Afraid of living with regret, she tries increasingly desperate measures to move beyond her busy mind and hear the wisdom of her heart. When her truth finally speaks and the door to motherhood slams shut, Hollie is left with a burning question … Now what? In a bid to find her answer, she finds herself drawn to a Buddhist Island which sparks a spiritual journey of discovery as she goes in search of a way to live her one, wild, childfree life.

Wild Egg is primarily for women who are questioning whether motherhood is their path and considering the childfree-road-less-travelled. It is also for women who are searching for a deeper experience of being alive, beyond the role of being a mother - either because they are already childfree (by choice) or childless (not by choice), or are searching for renewal in midlife now that their children are adults.

The Unbound Press are thrilled to be working with Jennifer on this important topic, and bringing this much-needed book into the world.
